What is Telemarketing? Telemarketing is also called telesales or cold calling. The word Telemarketing consists of two words, Tele which is a shortcut for telephone and marketing. It simply means the use of the Telephone to market products and services.

The first call determines the customer’s needs. The final call motivates the customer to make a purchase. Prospective customers are usually identified by past purchase history, previous requests for information, credit limit, competition entry forms, and application forms and for existing customers. Names may also be purchased from another company’s consumer database or obtained from a telephone directory, yellow pages or another public list. The qualification process is intended to determine which customers are most likely to purchase the product or service.
